South Bay Transit

Formed in Los Angeles in 1975 when I joined them. Leader Jack Poster the lead trumpet player already was working on getting to Las Vegas. We were a Top 40’s 7 piece group with a girl singer at the time. She left the group before L.V…I started to be a front man doing James Brown imitation and we started to get some more gigs. But it wasn’t only myself.Everyone in the band was very talented in what they were performing .I stayed with the band for 2 and a half years.Jack Poster got us a gig at Caesars Palace. He was already 3rd trumpet play in the main show room and played with most of the biggest Star’s of that era, while we were moved to a lounge show room there too.Because of Jacks connection we got to start on an album in a Las Vegas studio. We were all writing originals as a group and as individuals. We were back up by Frank Sinatra and Lola Falana singer, their lawyer and Nat Brandywine orchestra leader of the main show room at Caesars Palace at the time.We all worked from 9 p.m. to 1: a.m and then go to the studio until 7 or 8 in the morning, sometimes later. We worked  6 nights a week.We did it for almost one year. All exhausted, you can imagine? Well,we finish the album and after everything went down hill. The main backer died,Nat Brandywine.Life is full of surprises. The great thing is; after 41 years Jack Poster the trumpet player found me on Facebook and told me he got a chance to find some of the originals. It blew my mind. Now I’m going to share these tunes, songs with you.

Being a Musician

I’m not in it to give the audience what it wants and I surely do not tell them what it wants to hear.

I’m not in it for the money.

I’m not a member of a group. If you’re the quarterback of the football team or the head of a sewage company, chances are you are not an artist. An artist is a misunderstood outsider who doesn’t get along with others, sorry, but it’s true ….

I’m not an activist for rights that I do not participating in. When you hear someone complain about streaming payouts and they’ve got none, beware. Pay attention to those in the game. You earn your presence in the game, until then what you say doesn’t matter.

Your not entitled to an income.

Speaks truth. To power, to everybody. If you’re afraid of the reaction to your work and flinch and don’t put it out you’re a snivelings wimp, not an artist…

I know that the audience is the ultimate arbiter. Gatekeepers are to be tolerated, at this late date critics are nearly irrelevant. If you’re getting a good response you’re on the right track, ignore the haters and who see themselves wishing, with an ego trip the size of a football field….Volume 10 taste 3..

Some awards are meaningless. Sure, they’re nice to get but they don’t represent quality, only acknowledgement by people you probably wouldn’t want to know anyway.

Chops are important, but they’re no match for inspiration.

I believe that credibility is everything, if people don’t believe in you, they will not believe in your work.

Look for inspiration everywhere. The more you interact with the world, the better your art. In other words, an artist is CURIOUS!

I will take no for an answer, but will not stop creating
I know, if when they ring the bell, which they do infrequently.

It gets better with time. Unless you reaped huge success, then you usually get worse, because you worry about the audience’s expectations and are afraid to take risks and then become slaves to their income.

If you don’t know how we got here, who came before, how the game works, chances are you won’t succeed. You’ve got to learn the parameters and see where you can test limits.

If your inspired by other artists. Great! There is always someone to learn from which stimulates you to become better.

Art is not 9-5 work, it’s about getting inspired. A goal should scare you a little and excite you a lot…

Do you ever feel that you bit off more than you can chew? Well.I did for the last two months. It was like being a switch board operator and all ten phones are ringing at the same time.I started to get stress and thought about it? Why should I worry? I'm in no hurry to get this all done.I have really plenty of time and of course, I don't accomplish anything worth while being in that state of mind. So,if you know with complete absence of doubt that what you are doing is consistent with your own purpose and that you are involved in accomplishing a great affair, then you are at peace with yourself and in harmony with your own heroic mission.Impatience breeds fear, stress and discouragement.Patience manifests in confidence, decisiveness, and a feeling of peaceful satisfaction.

Your one big break is not. The road is littered with not only bumps, but hills. The mountaintop is far in the distance, you think you can see it, but you cannot. Keep going.

People want to put you down, they want you to be like them, the longer you listen the more discouraged you become. You are the game, everybody else is the audience.

He not busy being born is busy dying. If you're repeating yourself, if you're in a rut, you're already in the rearview mirror. Admit mistakes, try new things, you stumble into greatness, it's not about calculation.

All the time, you're not only hoovering up information, mistakes correct your course. And you gain knowledge of people, you realize so many are full of crap. Finding those who can truly aid you is a lifetime journey.

Lighten Up!

The lighter you take yourself, and the more you detach from self-importance,the more you will attract into your life.We have totally control over how much laughing, singing, and rejoicing we are experiencing, regardless of how much we have convinced ourselves to the contrary. Have fun!
